Vioxx® is a cox-2 prescription drug for arthritis. The manufacturer of Vioxx, Merck Pharmaceuticals, announced in September 2004 that the drug commonly prescribed for arthritis was voluntarily being recalled because it has been linked to an increased relative risk for heart attack and strokes.
