A documentary about the fictions and false alarms that threaten the civil justice system is being aired on HBO. The McDonald’s coffee case continues to be cited as a prime example by the anti-consumerists and Republicans of how citizens use “frivolous” lawsuits to take unfair advantage of America’s legal system.

Filmmaker and former public interest lawyer, Susan Saladoff, uses the infamous legal battle that began with a spilled cup of coffee to investigate what’s behind the conservative zeal for tort reform – which threatens to restrict the legal rights of everyday citizens and undermines the entire civil justice system.

In this thought provoking documentary being shown on HBO this summer the film tells the real story around the coffee case and exposes how the anti consumer establishment has distorted the facts in this case to attempt to reduce the rights of consumers to be properly compensated for their injuries through the judicial process.
